World Enviornment Day E-campaign for Bio-Diversity
World Environment Day, June 05th, 2008
Members of Global Young Greens are engaged in a Global scale electronic campaign on Bio-Diversity; as it’s greatly threaten with extinction. By the year 2004, 287,655 plants, 74,000-120,000 fungi, 10,000 lichens, 1,250,000 animals, 58,808 vertebrates, 29,300 fish, 5,743 amphibians, 8,240 reptiles, 10,234 birds, 5,416 mammals. Unofficially, there are 10 to 30 million species of insects, and so as with the other kinds.
But we have changed these numbers in large proportions. For example 9799 species of birds out of 10234 which was originally there by year 2004 was extant as of the year 2006.
Today more than 12% of Birds, 25% of Conifers, 32% of Amphibians, and 23 % of Mammals threatened with extinction. Global warming and other man made processes are in the forefront of worlds rich Bio-heritage.
For the last 500 years we have experience the total extinction of over 40,000 insect species. The rate of extinction of life on earth is at its highest after extinction of the dinosaurs’. We are destroying the life on earth and finally leading to a massive manmade disaster which will even lead to the collapse of human civilizations. After 4 billion years of evolutions today Bio-Diversity on earth is struggling to comply and adapt to new altered conditions of the environment.
Human agriculture is totally dependent upon the sympathy of natural balance even though the mechanizing of agriculture has been destroying the eco systems around humans. Today, destruction of habitats has been the main issue which is threatening these non human life foams. The remaining portion of life foams will be
dealt by the climate change which is caused by our greed, just like the extinction of Aldabra banded snail (“Rachistia aldabra”) in 2000.
Thus, It’s we Greens are the ones who are responsible for the well being of our planets Bio-Diversity. This means Global Young Greens have a greater responsibility of deploying there capabilities on the ground to mobilize efforts to raise voice and help those who fight for the sake of this wonderful planet.
So few of the Young Greens from around the world decided to launch a e campaign to raise awareness among green circles and motivate them for this cause.
